REBIRTH OF HISPANOLA
In 2005,the Dominican Foundation and
IDDI, founded BIOIDDI, with the
purpose of developing
Bio-sustainable communities and the
Re-Birth of Hispaniola, both the
Dominican Republic and Haiti.
BIOIDDI will use biomass as the
primary material - sugar cane, sweet
sorghums, jatropha and other plants,
producing energy while at the same
time creating jobs and improving the
environment of the island.

BIOIDDI will reduce the Dominican
Republic's dependency on oil and
petroleum products through the
transition from heavy to lighter
carbon fuels.
In essence, BIOIDDI will develop a
new economic model that equitably
employs biofuels and the biofinery
concept to build thousands of new
industries and business, tens of
thousands of new jobs in the private
sector in a way that a fair share of
the value-added benefits accrue to
the poor while reducing poverty.
Additionally, through this renewable
energy project, BIOIDDI will reduce
the Dominican Republic's dependency
on oil and petroleum products
through the transition from heavy to
lighter carbon fuels. Energy
efficiency and the other renewable
energy technologies (solar, wind,
geothermal, incremental hydro,
biopower and renewable hydrogen)
should also be considered in
achieving our mission.
Through this project, the goal is to
also increase the attractiveness of
the Dominican Republic to tourists
by demonstrating leadership in
sustainable and renewable energy
technologies, environmental
enhancement, and advancement of the
well being of the poorest citizens.
The first step of the Re-Birth of
Hispaniola is comprised of the
following pilot projects:
-
Ethanol
Project which includes sugar
cane and sweet sorghum
-
Biodiesel
Project which includes
recycled oils and new jatropha
plantations (Jatropha which
provides a natural oil and can
be used in reforestation)
-
Green
Airport Project which has
been initiated in La Cueva de
Las Maravillas, Dominican
Republic
In summary, this operation plan
ranges from mini steps, readily
achievable, to grand, seemingly
impossible visions. The reality
is that the seemingly impossible
visions are no more difficult to
attain than the mini steps. A
first priority is putting the
already existing talent and
resources in the Dominican
Republic into play.
